ZAGREB, April 22 (Hina) - The Croatian Writers' Union (DHK), which was established on April 22 1900, marked its 100th anniversary on Saturday. Addressing the gathered, the president of the DHK, academician Slavko Mihalic stressed the
anniversary was important for the development of literature "on Europe's periphery, which was pushed aside by small and big imperialist plans," as well as for the struggle for one's own language and a higher education level, literacy, publishing, and the establishment of a publishing market. Mihalic also spoke about the history of Croatian literature with emphasis on the time after World War II, when the DHK witnessed events which were crucial for the preservation of Croatian language and literature.
