ZAGREB, April 4 (Hina) - Croatian parliament president Zlatko
Tomcic on Tuesday received a delegation of the Croatian Employers'
Association (HUP) headed by HUP presidency chairman Branko
Roglic.
According to a statement by parliament's Public Relations Office,
the HUP delegation pointed out the actual difficult state in the
economy was given insufficient attention.
It is imperative to pass a development strategy, relieve the
economy, and fortify the rule-of-law in view of processing illegal
activities from the past and prevent new ones from happening, the
HUP delegation asserted.
It is important to preserve social peace as a condition for
overcoming the big difficulties of the present, they stated.
Tomcic agreed, pointing out the new authorities had been surprised
with the unexpectedly bad state of affairs and this, he said, was
the reason behind slow steps forward in change-making.
Changes will be kick-started by parliament's urgent legislative
activity. In the future, HUP's representatives will attend
sessions of parliamentary committees on economy and finances.
It is imperative to relieve the economy of huge taxes as soon as
possible, and to free re-invested profit of tax to create new jobs,
Roglic told reporters after today's talks with Tomcic. New jobs lie
in a more dynamic economy, he believes.
Roglic said today's talks also tackled the burning issue of
Croatia's economy, namely illiquidity, which he described as a
plague Croatia needs to get rid of as soon as possible.
The state must be the first to act because it is one of the main
culprits for illiquidity, Roglic said, adding the others were
insolvent companies camouflaging in the general illiquidity.
