PARLIAMENT COMMISSION AGAINST IMMUNITY BAN FOR THREE MPS

ZAGREB, March 22 (Hina) - The credentials and privileges commission of the Croatian parliament's House of Representatives on Wednesday decided to propose to the Lower House not to lift immunity for three MPs, as had been suggested by the Zagreb Municipal Court. The Court demanded that Ivic Pasalic and Zlatko Canjuga of the Croatian Democratic Union, and Anto Djapic of the Croatian Party of Rights be exempt from immunity on account of private suits for slander filed against them. Credentials and privileges commission president Milanka Opacic explained Pasalic, Canjuga, and Djapic should not be exempt from immunity because immunity protects MPs in cases such as slander suits to enable them to continue with their work. The entire commission voted against exemption from immunity, except Mladen Godek of the Croatian Social Liberal Party.(hina) ha mm
