ZAGREB, March 20 (Hina) - Croatia must adopt a national strategy for
accessing the European Union, including a national programme of
adopting European laws, Croatian Minister for European Integration
Ivan Jakovcic said in Zagreb Monday.
Jakovcic opened a two-day seminar entitled "Legal Aspects of the
European Union" organised by the European Integration Ministry for
civil servants.
He stressed the way towards membership in the EU was exceptionally
complex, exhausting and long.
"Harmonising laws and adopting European regulations with the
reform of state administration are the two most important parallel
processes the success of which is a precondition for accession into
the EU," Jakovcic said addressing civil servants and guest
ambassadors of all EU member-countries.
In his address Jakovcic defined the role of the Ministry as
coordinating the integration process.
This process consists of harmonising laws, analysing and
suggesting economic adjustments, coordinating the EU's technical
assistance programme, educating and informing the public, with
prior fulfilment of political conditions the EU sets, he said.
European Commission envoy to Zagreb Per Vinther and Portuguese and
French ambassadors Ana Barata and Albert Turot wished Croatia
successful work in the process of adjustment to European laws.
During the two-day seminar a number of prominent experts from the
country and abroad will hold lectures about various legal aspects
of the European Union.
