SARAJEVO, Mar 13 (Hina) - NATO Secretary-General George Robertson
on Monday promised support to the strengthening of peace in Bosnia-
Herzegovina, while at the same time urging the country's citizens
to show at upcoming elections willingness to say no to the policy of
ethnic division.
Robertson arrived in the Bosnian capital of Sarajevo on a day-long
visit.
Upon arrival, the secretary-general visited the neighbourhood of
Stup, where in co-operation with the European Union (EU), the
Civil-Military Cooperation Department of NATO's Stabilisation
Force is rebuilding several hundred houses to which pre-war owners
should return.
EU's DM5.6 million-worth programme is aimed at providing
conditions necessary for the return of about 260 families whose
houses were almost completely demolished during last decade's
war.
The rebuilding covers 50 percent of Muslim, 30 percent of Croat, and
20 percent of Serb houses, which is consistent with the capital's
pre-war ethnic picture.
NATO's Robertson said projects like these represent a concrete
proof of the international community's willingness to assist
Bosnia.
Responding to a question from the press, Robertson confirmed the
peace forces in Bosnia would pursue with efforts to arrest war
crimes suspects. It is a condition for lasting peace and a
democratic future, he asserted.
