VEHICLE-SMUGGLING CHAIN UNCOVERED IN BOSNIAN FEDERATION

SARAJEVO, March 11 (Hina) - Pursuant to an action by customs authorities in the Bosnian Federation a vehicle-smuggling chain in the Moslem-Croat entity of Bosnia-Herzegovina has been severed, Sarajevo's daily "Dnevni avaz" said Saturday. According to the daily, customs officials spent several months investigating and confirmed rumours that people in any part of the entity could for only several hundred Deutch marks receive a certificate about paid customs and taxes for any imported vehicle, notwithstanding its true value. There have been examples of customs and taxes paid for brand new Mercedes' of DM200 or 300. Based on false customs certificates issued by customs offices in the Livno and Central Bosnia cantons, about 310 imported vehicles have been registered. This information, however, only pertains to a third of processed suspect customs certificates. The investigation so far uncovered three groups of people who mediated in these illegal transactions.
