SARAJEVO DAILY: FORMER BUGOJNO MAYOR TO GO TO THE HAGUE? SARAJEVO, Mar 10 (Hina) - The international war crimes tribunal in The Hague could soon issue an indictment against Dzevad Mlaco, a former mayor of the central Bosnian town of
Bugojno, who is held responsible for the murder of 21 Bugojno Croats, the Sarajevo daily 'Dani' reported on Friday. Quoting its sources at the tribunal, the daily claims the office of Prosecutor Carla del Ponte has already completed evidence on the massacre of Bugojno Croats in 1993 following their arrest by the members of the Army of Bosnia-Herzegovina. SARAJEVO, Mar 10 (Hina) - The international war crimes tribunal in
The Hague could soon issue an indictment against Dzevad Mlaco, a
former mayor of the central Bosnian town of Bugojno, who is held
responsible for the murder of 21 Bugojno Croats, the Sarajevo daily
'Dani' reported on Friday.
Quoting its sources at the tribunal, the daily claims the office of
Prosecutor Carla del Ponte has already completed evidence on the
massacre of Bugojno Croats in 1993 following their arrest by the
members of the Army of Bosnia-Herzegovina.
The indictment against Mlaco should go as high as the leadership of
the Bosniak Party of Democratic Action (SDA), and Alija Izetbegovic
himself could have cause for concern, the daily claims.
Mlaco, who was replaced a year and a half ago for obstructing the
return of Croat refugees to Bugojno, could be joined on the list of
indictees by Ismet Hadzibegovic, war-time head of the Bugojno
police, members of the war-time municipal presidency and members of
two BH Army units, who organised the opening of a concentration camp
for Croats at a local stadium.
According to available data, 60 Croat prisoners were maltreated in
the camp in 1993, about which representatives of the International
Committee of the Red Cross made a special report, which was
submitted to the Tribunal.
After he was replaced as Bugojno mayor, Mlaco was appointed
representative at the BH Parliament's House of Peoples in line with
a decision of the Bosniak political leadership, however, he was
replaced from that position as well by High Representative Wolfgang
Petritsch.
