THE HAGUE, March 9 (Hina) - The trial chamber of the International
Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) in the case of
Kordic-Cerkez, on Thursday ordered the prosecution to bring back
for questioning of a witness who had accused Croatian General
Slobodan Praljak and former president and deputy president of the
Croat Community of Herzeg-Bosnia, Mate Boban and Dario Kordic, for
crimes in Stupni Dol, after contradictions have surfaced in
relation to the witness's previous claims.
The defence had requested the witness does not testify after his
statements made to the Bosnia-Herzegovina Army which are
contradictory to this week's testimony.
The statements enclose such a level of untruth which is obvious,
Kordic's attorney Steven Sayers said.
Through what you will see his credibility will absolutely be
brought into question, Kordic's other attorney Mitko Naumovski
said.
Protected court witness A.O., former commander of the Croatian
Intelligence Service from Vares, claimed this week that the
commander of the Croatian Defence Council (HVO), Ivica Rajic,
indicted by the ICTY for the mass slaughter of Moslems in Stupni
Dol, had arrived in Vares under orders of the mentioned three with
the task of forceful exile of Croats from the area by assaults on
Moslem villages.
Kordic has been indicted of the crime committed in Stupni Dol in
which on October 23, 1993 at least 16 Moslem residents had been
killed.
The claim of the protected witness that he had received information
about the situation in Bosnia-Herzegovina during the war from
president of the Croatian Peasants' Party (HSS) Zlatko Tomcic,
currently the president of the Croatian National Parliament, was
refuted by Tomcic himself on Wednesday night.
