GOVT TO PROVIDE STIMULATION FOR SOWING OF 120,000 HECTARES

ZAGREB, March 2 (Hina) - Out of the total 732,021 hectares scheduled for sowing this spring, the Government will provide stimulation resources for 120,400 hectares. Around 88.6 million kuna (about US$11.35 million) will be set aside from the budget to be paid through raw materials and semi-manufactures to the producers of barley, soy, sunflower and sugar beet. The Croatian Government thus adopted a temporary operative plan of spring sowing at Thursday's session. If everything goes as planned, Croatia will be able to satisfy its needs for sugar, oil and plant fat from its own production. Total sowing areas are by three per cent larger this spring than last year's, with planned 732,021 hectares. Corn will be planted on more than a half of the sowed areas, on 380,000 hectares.
