President slams violence in Split as disgrace

BABINA GREDA, June 12 (Hina) - Croatian President Ivo Josipovic on Sunday labelled violence at the first gay parade in Split as disgrace, expressing his belief that what happened in Split on Saturday was not the true face of Croatia.

Asked by reporters to comment on incidents in Split, Josipovic, who was on a visit to the eastern town of Babina Greda, said that it was a disgrace and sad that any group of people was exposed to such gross attacks.

Asked by reporters about the responsibility of the police and Interior Minister Tomislav Karamarko for such developments at the parade, Josipovic said that it was still too early for any conclusions and that it should be seen what had exactly happened.

Asked by reporters whether he supported same-sex marriages Josipovic said he believed that "a well-regulated union between two people does not do any wrong to anyone".
