ZAGREB, Jan 7 (Hina) - Zagreb on Friday became the headquarters of
inorganic chemists from Europe, the United States, Japan, and the
South African Republic, who are attending the annual assembly of
the Inorganic Section of the English Royal Society of Chemistry.
The two-day, working part of the European Conference for Inorganic
Mechanisms is taking place in Esplanade Hotel, while the opening
ceremony was held at the Croatian National Theatre tonight.
The English Royal Society of Chemistry, the oldest and most
renowned chemistry society in the world, was founded in 1841. This
year its Inorganic Section is holding its 30th conference with the
working title "Discussion Group for Inorganic Mechanisms."
Inorganic Society secretary Mike B. Davies said he was satisfied
with how the University of Zagreb co-organised the conference,
while University of Zagreb head Branko Jeren said it was a great
honour to organise a conference for a renowned society as the Royal
Society of Chemistry.
Croatia is not a big country in terms of territory and population,
Jeren said, but pointed out the University of Zagreb was a major
European university with a long tradition with currently the 331st
academic year in course.
