ZAGREB, Jan 7 (Hina) - Ante Ledic, an independent candidate at the
January 24 presidential elections in Croatia on Friday presented
his candidacy under the motto "Man of Word, Man of Deeds".
Ledic said the reason for his candidacy was his personal wish, as
well as that of his associates, to do good, spread love and to help
the Croatian people and state.
Stressing he had sufficient energy and knowledge to take on the
duties of Croatian President, Ledic said the president of the
country must found his authority on respecting the constitution and
the law, and must be in front, not above his people.
"Should I be elected as president, I will never let down the
Croatian people in any issue, because there is no trading with the
people," Ledic stressed.
Speaking about his relation towards Bosnia-Herzegovina, Ledic said
he would advocate Bosnia-Herzegovina as a unified state in which
all three constitutive peoples must have equal rights.
Regarding cooperation with the International Criminal Tribunal for
the former Yugoslavia, Ledic stressed criminals must always answer
for their crimes, but he would oppose any unfounded pressure on any
Croatian.
Ledic stressed he would also advocate the return of refugees and
displaced persons notwithstanding their nationality, except for
those who had committed crimes.
"We cannot take away a person's freedom and expect to remain free
ourselves," he added.
As Croatian President, I will try to secure jobs for all young
people who finish their education, so they could raise families
normally, Ledic said.
He added a process of thinking must be opened in Croatia so that all
capable people would be included in the work in the interest of the
state, because work was the basis of every value.
