BUDAPEST, Jan 6 (Hina) - A feature-length documentary film entitled
"Jews and Croatia" was presented on Wednesday evening in the centre
of the Jewish Community in Budapest called "Balint".
This documentary, directed by Jakov Sedlar, shows the life and work
of the Jewish community in Croatia and traces and impact this
community has made in the arts, culture, sciences and architecture
since first Jews settled in Croatia to date.
The audience in the "Balint" centre watched the movie with great
interest. After the film was shown, present at the event expressed
satisfaction with this project.
The director Jakov Sedlar said the purpose of this movie was to
elucidate some relations and conceptions about the ties between the
Croatian and Jewish people through history, which often was subject
to incorrect and hasty interpretation.
That's why it took more time than usual to make this film, and the
documentary's crew travelled to Israel to talk with Jews who moved
into that country in 1948 or later and who were witness to the
Holocaust, Sedlar added.
The head of the Balint centre, Miklos Fischer, said he had already
watched the film and he liked it very much.
Fischer suggested that it would be good to make similar films in
some other countries.
Besides members of the Jewish community in Budapest and Croatian
diplomats, members of the Diplomatic Corps in the Hungarian capital
and representatives of the Croatian minority in this country were
present at the promotion of the documentary.
This film has already been shown in Croatia and the United States,
and Israeli audience will be able to watch it soon.
