ZAGREB, Dec 21 (Hina) - The Croatian Post (HP) said in a statement on
Friday the strike of the postal workers unions, which started at
midnight on Wednesday, could cause significant damage to the
company given the upcoming Christmas and New Year holidays.
The financial damage is irreparable, but the moral damage is even
greater because for the first time in its history the post will not
be able to deliver Christmas and New Year messages on time, the HP
said.
The strike, which was organised by the National Union of Post and
Telecommunications (HPT) Workers and the Croatian Post Union, will
last until the unions' demands are met.
Guard services, on-duty post offices and urgent delivery services
will be working during the strike.
The strike started because the government did not approve the
signing of a collective work agreement which had already been
initialled, demanding that the rights from the agreement be reduced
to the level of the Basic Collective Agreement for Public
Services.
