ZAGREB, Dec 18 (Hina) - Both Epiphany and Corpus Christi will be non-working days in 2002 as agreed by the apostolic nuncio, Giulio Einaudi, the parliament speaker, Zlatko Tomcic, and the Zagreb archbishop and president of the
Croatian Bishops' Conference (HBK), Josip Bozanic, the Catholic Information Agency (IKA) reported Tuesday. This autumn the parliament made amendments to the law on national holidays and non-working days making Epiphany (January 6) a working day, and introducing a movable feast Corpus Christi (usually in June) into the calendar of official holidays and non-working days. It was subsequently pointed out these changes violated agreements with the Holy See, which, under the Croatian Constitution, are above other legislation and cannot be changed unilaterally. Croatia will have 14 holidays in 2002, with the number of holidays and non-working days falling under the European average.(hina)
