ZADAR COURT IN WAR CRIMES RETRIAL ZADAR, Dec 18 (Hina) - The defence team of Zorana Banic, accused of war crimes against civilians in Skabrnja, on Tuesday requested the exemption of the Zadar County Court in the retrial to their
client. The Zagreb lawyers Ranko Radovic and Luka Susak maintain their client needs an objective and unbiased trial, and have suggested Banic be prosecuted before a county court in an area unaffected by the 1990s war. The request will be considered by the Zadar County Court, with the previous opinion of the Zadar county state prosecutor's office. In 1996 the 49-year-old Banic was sentenced in absentia to 20 years in prison for a war crime committed in Skabrnja, a town near the central Adriatic seaport of Zadar, on 18 November 1991.
