cultural property taken away should be immediately returned to where it belongs, to Vukovar and to the other parts of Croatia," Croatian Ambassador to the United Nations Ivan Simonovic said in New York Monday. In a discussion on the return and the restitution of the cultural heritage, Simonovic informed the UN general Assembly of grave consequences Croatia's cultural property suffered during aggression and occupation in the nineties. "According to the independent foreign reports, more cultural artefacts had been destroyed in Croatia during the first seven months of war in 1991-1992 than during the entire duration of WWII," he stressed. organised initiatives at the international level in order to
prevent trafficking of cultural artefacts.
He also hailed the adoption of the Convention on the Protection of
the Underwater Cultural Heritage.
