and the Independent Union of Construction Workers of Croatia on
Friday signed a collective agreement with the Croatian
Construction Employers' Association, which as of next year will
apply to 11,080 workers from 44 construction companies from the
Croatian Construction Employers' Association.
The new collective agreement sets the lowest basic salary at 1,700
kuna for the simplest jobs, which is an increase of 13 percent. The
agreement also includes a 40-hour working week and retains acquired
rights from the old collective agreement, said the president of the
Croatian Construction Employers' Association, Stipe Kirigin.
Salaries in the constructions sector are 25% lower than the average
salary, which affects interest in construction and education for
such jobs and encourages black labour.
It is expected that significant investments, to be made in
construction next year, such as the Zagreb-Split highway, will
increase the salary from the collective agreement.
