the constant control of the Finance Ministry as well as that the state collected a sizeable tax income from that activity. Speaking at a government session on Thursday, which tackled a new law on games of chance and prize games, Linic said betting offices were run by people who ran soccer clubs and bribed judges thus spreading immorality. Goran Bradic, head of the marketing section of the First Pools, the
largest betting office in Croatia, said the office operated in a
transparent way and was constantly controlled by state services,
with the state collecting significant revenues in the form of
taxes.
There is a total of 11 sports betting offices in Croatia, which
employ around 1,000 people.
