SPLIT: INITIATIVE FOR PROCLAIMING GOTOVINA HONORARY CITIZEN LAUNCHED SPLIT, Dec 3 (Hina) - The City of Split Council at Monday's session adopted a proposal by Milijano Cesar of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) for launching an
initiative to proclaim the retired Croatian general Ante Gotovina a honorary citizen of Split. Presenting the proposal, Davor Lasic of the HDZ said the initiative was launched because the majority of the Croatian nation was aware of Gotovina's unquestionable role in and crucial contribution to the liberation of southern Croatia and part of Bosnia-Herzegovina. Gotovina, whom the Hague tribunal indicted for war crimes committed during 1995's Operation Storm, is unavailable to the Croatian judiciary.
