LOAN POTENTIAL FOR BUSINESSMEN IN 2001 AMOUNTS TO 1.38 BILLION KUNA

ZAGREB, Nov 29 (Hina) - The overall loan potential for development projects of craftsmen and entrepreneurs in 2001 will reach almost 1.38 billion kuna (USD165 million), Zeljko Pecek, Crafts, Small and Medium Enterprises Minister told journalists Thursday. Speaking about stimulating businesses, Pecek stressed that according to September 30 data, the number of employed in crafts and enterprises increased by almost 27,000 in comparison to 2000. So far 52 contracts have been signed with banks, and local and regional self-governments. A total of 1.043 billion kuna (USD124.2 million) worth of resources have been secured. By the end of 2001, 13 new contracts are expected to be signed, Pecek said. Six loan programmes, worth 712 million kuna (USD84.8 million), have been realised so far, of which 150 million kuna (USD17.9 million) have been realised through export. Capital assets of 15 banks, which are included in various projects, have been activated, because banks multiply the amounts ten times, previously secured by the ministry and local government. Minister Pecek said a Guide for businessmen has been prepared - a catalogue of foreign investments into Croatia - including over 300 projects, ready for concrete investments, as well as an Info business line which has received nearly 5,000 calls in several months.
