The Working Table on security has two sub-tables -- on defence and
security issues, and on the judiciary and internal affairs.
Hombach stressed that the Working Table on security achieved great
progress, but also warned about the slowness of the international
community in setting aside contributions for assistance to
Southeast European countries, as well as on the slow implementing
of judiciary reforms in some countries in the region.
The Third Table of the Stability Pact deals with the reform of the
security system, the prevention of spreading of light weapons, the
fight against organised crime, military and police training, mine
removal and the fight against natural disasters.
The chairman of the Working table on security Kim Traavik
highlighted some concrete projects of the Third Working Table.
The complementary training of soldiers is taking place in Romania,
Bulgaria and Bosnia-Herzegovina. A great number of small and light
weapons has been collected in Albania and Yugoslavia. The training
of the police and the forming of a network of police forces which
would be able to confront organised crime is being carried out in
some countries.
