ILIESCU WELCOMES CROATIA'S CANDIDACY FOR CEFTA MEMBERSHIP

BUCHAREST, Nov 16 (Hina) - Romanian President Ion Iliescu welcomed Croatia's official candidacy for membership in the Central European Free Trade Agreement (CEFTA) at a CEFTA summit in Bucharest on Friday. In his introductory speech at the summit, Iliescu said some countries no longer considered the free trade association a necessary stage in the process of admission to the European Union. The CEFTA is currently chaired by Romania. Attending the summit, along with the prime ministers of the CEFTA member-countries, is also Croatia's Prime Minister Ivica Racan, since Croatia is an official candidate for CEFTA membership. The Croatian prime minister is expected to deliver a speech at the meeting.
