ZAGREB, Nov 13 (Hina) - The Zagreb police on Tuesday pressed charges
against six Romanian citizens who took part in an attempted mutiny
at the Interior Ministry's camp for foreigners Jezevo near the
capital yesterday. Thirteen Algerians have gone on hunger strike.
The police said today they had completed the investigation into the
attempted mutiny of two groups of foreigners, who had been arrested
in an attempt to illegally enter Croatia.
Five Romanians who set a blanket on fire have been charged with
endangering lives and property. Yesterday they closed a room at the
camp and set the blanket on fire, demanding the immediate arrival of
a representative of the Romanian Embassy and passports to return to
their homeland.
They should be taken before an investigating judge of the Zagreb
county court today.
The other group which took part in the attempted mutiny included 13
Algerians, two Tunisians, and two Israeli citizens. They demand to
be released from Jezevo as they do not wish to stay in Croatia, but
are also against repatriation or asylum.
The police said their request to be allowed to go to Western Europe
had been turned down, prompting the 13 Algerians to go on hunger
strike.
In a statement yesterday, the police said they had entered Croatia
via Turkey and Bulgaria, bearing false documents. Each had paid
$3,500 for the journey.
