ZAGREB, Oct 19 (Hina) - Minister Sime Lucin on Friday sent a written apology to Croatian MPs over a statement by Interior Ministry spokeswoman Zinka Bardic who said that "the level of alcohol in the air in... parliament is never below
0.5 per mill." Bardic told Jutarnji List daily of Thursday: "We used to joke while drawing up the bill on road traffic safety whether to put 0.5 per mill as the maximum limit of alcohol in the blood, or 0.0 as in some countries, but we concluded that would be a Sisyphean task as the air in the Croatian parliament is never below 0.5!" ZAGREB, Oct 19 (Hina) - Minister Sime Lucin on Friday sent a written
apology to Croatian MPs over a statement by Interior Ministry
spokeswoman Zinka Bardic who said that "the level of alcohol in the
air in... parliament is never below 0.5 per mill."
Bardic told Jutarnji List daily of Thursday: "We used to joke while
drawing up the bill on road traffic safety whether to put 0.5 per
mill as the maximum limit of alcohol in the blood, or 0.0 as in some
countries, but we concluded that would be a Sisyphean task as the
air in the Croatian parliament is never below 0.5!"
Because of this statement, Minister Lucin apologised in a letter
that was read by parliamentary speaker Zlatko Tomcic.
"The Interior Ministry spokeswoman's statement was made
unofficially and is ill-advised," Lucin said in the letter.
The letter was forwarded after Tomcic requested, in writing, an
apology, taking exception to Bardic's "irrelevant, flippant and
utterly unprofessional statements".
Serving alcohol at parliament's cafe was prohibited on one
occasion, July 15. According to unofficial reports, this, the first
prohibition in the last ten years, was done because MPs discussed a
vote of confidence in the government.
