PRISTINA, Oct 16 (Hina) - International and local authorities in
Kosovo on Tuesday condemned a blast which occurred in the local
community centre in Suva Reka, some 50 km south of Pristina,
destroying the headquarters of two Albanian political parties - the
Democratic Alliance of Kosovo and the Democratic Party of Kosovo.
The explosion, which occurred early this morning, destroyed
several nearby facilities, but caused no victims.
A police spokesman for the U.N. interim administration in the
province (UNMIK), Derek Chappell, said an investigation was
underway but no one had been arrested so far.
Chappell believes the explosive device was probably planted and the
explosion was politically motivated as it damaged the offices of
two leading Kosovo Albanian parties.
Members of the Kosovo Interim Administrative Council have
condemned today's blast and called for a more tolerant election
campaign.
This is the first more serious incident in the first 13 days of the
Kosovo election campaign, which was previously described as
peaceful.
