BELGRADE, Oct 8 (Hina) - Yugoslav Foreign Minister Goran Svilanovic
on Monday said "a honeymoon has passed" between the Federal
Republic of Yugoslavia (FRY) and the international community, and
the further integration of his country into Europe required the
start of a dialogue on the relations between Serbia and
Montenegro.
Svilanovic was quoted by the 'Glas' newspaper as saying that since
now the FRY would be treated like other countries, and it implied
that Belgrade could expect difficult and long negotiations with its
close neighbours and other countries.
Svilanovic believes that the separation of Serbia and Montenegro,
which make up the incumbent Yugoslav federation, "would be no
tragedy", but he personally is against the break-up.
"I assert it is better to stay together. We shall thus faster join
the Council of Europe, which is our first challenge," the minister
said adding that the process of the FRY's admission to this body had
already been slowed down due to polemics about the future of the
Yugoslav federation inside the ruling DOS coalition.
