FED. SUPREME COURT DISMISSES JELAVIC'S REQUEST FOR EXEMPTION OF JUDGES

MOSTAR, Sept 23 (Hina) - The Supreme Court of the (Croat-Muslim) Federation of Bosnia-Herzegovina has dismissed a request of the Bosnian HDZ party's leader and the Bosnian Croat National Congress' head, Ante Jelavic, for the exemption of the federal Supreme Court's President, Suada Selimovic, and of the president and all judges of the Sarajevo cantonal court in the process initiated on the suspicion that Jelavic and his six close aides tried to undermine the constitutional order. The Supreme Court rejected Jelavic's appeal, describing it as groundless, according to the court's ruling which was forwarded to Hina correspondents in Mostar on Sunday. Jelavic and his aides from the self-styled Croat National Congress are charged with having endangered the territorial integrity of the Federation (Croat-Muslim entity) and of Bosnia-Herzegovina as well as with having undermined their defence ability. Asking for the exclusion of the above-mentioned judges, Jelavic's lawyer Josip Muselimovic claimed that Sarajevo cantonal court had no virtual or territorial jurisdiction over the case. The lawyer also contended that some judges of the Sarajevo cantonal court took part in the preparations for instigating the procedures, and he explained that that's why they could not lead the case. The request for the exemption of the federal Supreme Court's President is explained by the fact that President Selimovic allowed that the Sarajevo cantonal court should tackle the case although, according to Muselimovic, only the Mostar cantonal court is competent.
