UNMIK CONDUCTS REGISTRATION OF SERBS FOR ELECTIONS IN KOSOVO

PRISTINA, Aug 31 (Hina) - Of a total of 50,000 persons, of whom 43,000 are Serbs from Kosovo, have registered to vote for the general elections in this southern Yugoslav province of Kosovo, scheduled for November 17, United Nations Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) spokeswoman Susan Manuel said in Pristina Friday. The UNMIK and the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) organised the registration of persons eligible to vote in Kosovo and persons who left Kosovo and went to Serbia and Montenegro, because Serbs boycotted the registration for last year's elections in Kosovo. The officials of international institutions in Kosovo said theregistration would last for another eight days. The registration of Serbs in Kosovo and their participation in the elections will be the central topic of talks between UN civil administrator in Kosovo Hans Haekkerup and Serbian deputy Prime Ministers Nebojsa
