ZAGREB, Aug 14 (Hina) - President of the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly, Lord Russel Johnston, on Tuesday wrote to the Macedonian parliament speaker, asking that the parliament ratify the peace agreement signed yesterday.
Johnston wrote calling on the agreement to be ratified within 45 days, the Council of Europe said in a statement. The letter was sent before parliament speaker Stojan Andov could set the disarmament, be it partial, of the Albanian guerrilla as condition for the ratification. Andov today said the Macedonian parliament would start a discussion on the ratification of the agreement only when NATO collects a third of the weapons of the Albanian rebels. Lord Russel Johnson also called on all sides to respect the truce, which is a condition for the agreement's success.
