SOCIAL TRANSFER FUNDS MUST BE JUSTLY DISTRIBUTED -- PARL. SPEAKER

ZAGREB, Aug 13 (Hina) - Funds in the government budget for social transfers must be justly distributed to those who need them the most, which includes curbing all unjustified rights which have accumulated over the years, Croatian parliament speaker Zlatko Tomcic told Croatian Television tonight. Commenting on the rationalisation of social rights which the government should be discussing after ministers return from their vacations, Tomcic said "before the government makes a decision on decreasing social rights, all coalition partners must discuss the issue". He dismissed estimates that the government could fail on social issues. "Only the cumulating of all current political and social issues can be dangerous for the government. Social issues alone will not present any danger to cause the government's fall," Tomcic asserted. Stressing he did not find the upcoming "All-Croatian" meeting in Split as very important, Tomcic said "it is completely legal for even anonymous groups to try and organise an assembly which they call the all-Croatian assembly". However, he added, "behind this are no naive intentions", and it is obvious that it is an attempt to create a conflict in the already too politicised Croatian society. This is a construed affair which will "end just as it started -- with no results". (hina) lml
