SPLIT, RESIDENTS EVACUATED SPLIT, Aug 12 (Hina) - Fires are spreading in Split-Dalmatia County, some of which hare reached dangerous levels. The most critical situation is currently near Split, in Zrnovica, and the fire is becoming a
threat to houses not far from Split. The fire which has been engulfing a pine forest in Zrnovica since last night is spreading and becoming a threat to residential areas. About 50 residents have already been evacuated. The fire, aided by a strong wind which often changes direction, also spread to residential areas Kucine and Mravinci. The situation is worst near Kucine, as the flames have already reached houses. Fire-fighter commander Felicije Parcina said all residents have been evacuated from the area. Canadairs which have been used to curb fires at other locations along the coast, have arrived in the Split area to assist the numerous fire-fighters and volunteers.(hina) lml
