THE HAGUE, Aug 2 (Hina) - The defence attorney of Radislav Krstic, a Bosnian Serb general sentenced by the UN's war crimes tribunal at The Hague on Thursday to 46 years in prison for the 1995 massacre of Srebrenica Muslims, has
announced an appeal. "Within 90 days we shall appeal both the verdict and the sentence," attorney Nenad Petrusic briefly told reporters after leaving the tribunal. Prosecutor Mark Harmon, on the other hand, said he was satisfied as the trial chamber had accepted the prosecution's main stances. I think justice has been done, Harmon said, adding he was satisfied with the sentence even though the prosecution had demanded life for every count of the indictment. THE HAGUE, Aug 2 (Hina) - The defence attorney of Radislav Krstic, a
Bosnian Serb general sentenced by the UN's war crimes tribunal at
The Hague on Thursday to 46 years in prison for the 1995 massacre of
Srebrenica Muslims, has announced an appeal.
"Within 90 days we shall appeal both the verdict and the sentence,"
attorney Nenad Petrusic briefly told reporters after leaving the
tribunal.
Prosecutor Mark Harmon, on the other hand, said he was satisfied as
the trial chamber had accepted the prosecution's main stances.
I think justice has been done, Harmon said, adding he was satisfied
with the sentence even though the prosecution had demanded life for
every count of the indictment.
Harmon said the verdict was important for the victims.
The tribunal's chief prosecutor, Carla del Ponte, is satisfied with
the verdict as it is the first time that an indictee has been
convicted of genocide, spokeswoman Florence Hartmann said.
She added it was now clear how important it was to extradite former
Bosnian Serb leaders Radovan Karadzic and Ratko Mladic. They have
also been indicted for the 1995 massacre in the UN-protected zone in
Srebrenica in eastern Bosnia which claimed the lives of 7,000-8,000
Muslims.
