ZAGREB, July 27 (Hina) - The senior body of the ruling coalition's Social Liberals (HSLS) on Thursday assessed as unacceptable the political context of a Hague war crimes tribunal indictment against a retired Croatian general, Ante
Gotovina. The Gotovina indictment indirectly accuses Croatia of crimes against humanity and disregards its legitimate right to defence, equating aggression and defence, the Malo vijece said in a statement on Friday. The body is concerned that General Gotovina's individual guilt has been reduced to abstract commanding responsibility, with no attempts to prove his actual guilt, the statement read. "The HSLS, as a political party and member of the ruling coalition, without bringing into question the respect of international commitments, will use all legal and political means to fight the redesign of recent Croatian history and the presumed but not proven responsibility of any
ZAGREB, July 27 (Hina) - The senior body of the ruling coalition's
Social Liberals (HSLS) on Thursday assessed as unacceptable the
political context of a Hague war crimes tribunal indictment against
a retired Croatian general, Ante Gotovina.
The Gotovina indictment indirectly accuses Croatia of crimes
against humanity and disregards its legitimate right to defence,
equating aggression and defence, the Malo vijece said in a
statement on Friday.
The body is concerned that General Gotovina's individual guilt has
been reduced to abstract commanding responsibility, with no
attempts to prove his actual guilt, the statement read.
"The HSLS, as a political party and member of the ruling coalition,
without bringing into question the respect of international
commitments, will use all legal and political means to fight the
redesign of recent Croatian history and the presumed but not proven
responsibility of any Croatian citizen," read the statement.
This includes fighting before the Hague tribunal, as well as a legal
and political battle in international institutions and bodies,
with the ultimate goal the removal of unacceptable political
qualifications of the Homeland Defence War and the achievement of a
acceptable framework of Croatia's cooperation with the tribunal,
the statement concluded.
