14 PERCENT MORE TOURISTS IN CROATIA THAN LAST YEAR

ZAGREB, July 23 (Hina) - Last week's figures on overnights show 14 percent more tourists in Croatia this than at the same time last year. The figures are in accordance with a forecast growth of ten to 15 percent in 2001 tourist results, Minister Pave Zupan Ruskovic said on Monday. Tourism revenue for the year 2001 is expected to reach $4.5 billion, she told a session of the National Tourism Board. The number of home guests has increased by four and that of foreigners by 15 percent. Zadar County in the central Adriatic has reported 27 percent more guests than last year and recorded the highest increase as to the number of tourists. Kuna's exchange rate, which is overestimated, was one of the main reasons for lower consumption, Zupan Ruskovic said. A strong kuna has a psychological effect on foreign tourists for which reason they cut on spending on eating and entertainment.(hina) np ha
