The revue features about 900 performers, i.e. 37 domestic and
foreign folklore ensembles. Organisers have announced the five-day
event will include 20 performances by 24 ensembles from Croatia,
ten from Bosnia, Bulgaria, Hungary, Macedonia, the Netherlands,
Poland, Slovenia, the Ukraine, and Yugoslavia, and three ethnic
performers from Finland, Italy, and Macedonia.
The event was opened by Zagreb mayor Milan Bandic who said in
"meeting different folklore traditions we get to know each other
better and learn to respect and value our and others' heritage."
The revue is held under the auspices of the Croatian parliament. The
parliamentary speaker's envoy Stjepan Radic recalled that Zagreb
started hosting folklore revues in the 1920s to "preserve the
original Croatian identity."
