DJAPIC: BORDER AGREEMENT WITH SLOVENIA WHOLLY UNACCEPTABLE

ZAGREB, July 21 (Hina) - The opposition's Croatian Party of Rights (HSP) strongly objects to the initialling of a border agreement with neighbouring Slovenia, which the party deems unacceptable both from a legal and the point of view of state interests. HSP president Anto Djapic told reporters in Zagreb on Saturday the agreement, which the two governments initialled on Friday, "is in keeping with the Croatian government's trend to agree to political blackmail and sell national wealth." The Croatian opposition must strongly oppose Prime Minister Ivica "Racan's trade with Slovenia," said Djapic. "If this is about political trade, then it should be clearly said what Croatia gains by this trade." He believes the government has agreed to political blackmail already in connection with cooperation with UN's war-crimes tribunal at The Hague. According to Djapic, the government "agrees to the Hague tribunal's demands

"If this is about political trade, then it should be clearly said what Croatia gains by this trade." He believes the government has agreed to political blackmail already in connection with cooperation with UN's war-crimes tribunal at The Hague. According to Djapic, the government "agrees to the Hague tribunal's demands unconditionally" which he adds is not good for national interests. Djapic thinks a law on the privatisation of Croatian Telecom is also unacceptable as it leads to "the sale of national wealth" for the sake of an "artificial" filling of the state budget. The HSP also disapproves of parliament's recent adoption of a package of power laws. According to Djapic, the burden will fall on Croatian citizens through higher prices of gas and electricity. "The government, with Ivica Racan at the helm, has shown that it is incompetent and lost the credibility to lead the Croatian state both with regard to economy and international affairs," the president of the HSP said.
