ZAGREB, July 15 (Hina) - A Deputy Sabor Speaker and the head of the bench of the Social Democrats (SDP), Mato Arlovic, said during the first break of Sunday's session, that by withdrawing their proposal for a single debate on two
issues - the confidence motion and the Zagreb-ICTY relations - the benches of ruling parties had actually accepted the stand of the opposition party, the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ). Speaking to reporters, Arlovic said that during Friday's sitting the HDZ insisted in unison on the separate discussions on the vote of confidence in the incumbent government and on Zagreb's relations with the UN war crimes tribunal (ICTY). After debates on Friday and during preparations for today's session, we decided that there was no need to unite the motions and we accepted the HDZ bench's stand, Arlovic said. ZAGREB, July 15 (Hina) - A Deputy Sabor Speaker and the head of the
bench of the Social Democrats (SDP), Mato Arlovic, said during the
first break of Sunday's session, that by withdrawing their proposal
for a single debate on two issues - the confidence motion and the
Zagreb-ICTY relations - the benches of ruling parties had actually
accepted the stand of the opposition party, the Croatian Democratic
Union (HDZ).
Speaking to reporters, Arlovic said that during Friday's sitting
the HDZ insisted in unison on the separate discussions on the vote
of confidence in the incumbent government and on Zagreb's relations
with the UN war crimes tribunal (ICTY).
After debates on Friday and during preparations for today's
session, we decided that there was no need to unite the motions and
we accepted the HDZ bench's stand, Arlovic said.
It is obvious that HDZ is playing a waiting game with the
parliamentary session, Arlovic said adding that it seems to him
that the HDZ is manipulating the public and veterans.
Just 10 minutes after its start, Sunday's session of the Croatian
parliament was adjourned for one hour as the bench of the strongest
opposition party - the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) - asked for a
break.
At the beginning of the sitting at 10.00 am, Sabor Speaker Zlatko
Tomcic said benches of five ruling parties had withdrawn their
motion that a single discussion be held on two issues - the motion
for confidence in the government and the relations between Croatia
and ICTY, suggesting that the first topic to be discussed should be
the confidence vote.
Being notified with this proposal, HDZ parliamentarians protested.
HDZ President Ivo Sanader asked for a one-hour break for his bench
to prepare itself for such continuation of the session.
