session of the Croatian Archive Council, an advisory body of the Croatian Culture Ministry. An agreement on the return of archive materials, signed in late June, states that the principle of provenance and the principle of functional pertinence, which means enabling the full functioning of new successor-states, including Croatia, must be respected. ZAGREB, July 13 (Hina) - Yugoslavia should return the archive
materials taken from Croatia and other former Yugoslav countries to
Belgrade in line with a 1958 decision of the former federal interior
ministry, it was said at Friday's session of the Croatian Archive
Council, an advisory body of the Croatian Culture Ministry.
An agreement on the return of archive materials, signed in late
June, states that the principle of provenance and the principle of
functional pertinence, which means enabling the full functioning
of new successor-states, including Croatia, must be respected.
As regards the return of the Croatian archive material from Vienna,
the Council reported that in its letter to the Austrian State
Archive Directorate the Croatian State Archive referred to a
Belgrade agreement from 1987 and a list of resolved questions
regarding the return of archive materials from 1989 in line with a
Vienna agreement.
The Council believes the return of the archive materials can start
already and that new questions will be opened and lists of other
archive materials to be returned compiled.
The Council said that the Croatian State Archive had requested that
some ministries send it materials about the Homeland War, thus
complying with a government decision on launching a study on the
Homeland War so that the final number of victims could be
established as soon as possible and situations surrounding
Bleiburg and Jasenovac avoided.
