ZAGREB STOCK EXCHANGE REALISES TURNOVER OF 645 MILLION KUNA IN FIRST HALF OF 2001

ZAGREB, July 2 (Hina) - In the first six months of 2001 the Zagreb Stock Exchange realised a turnover of 645 million kuna (approx. USD 74.65 million) whereas the turnover realised in the same period last year amounted to just over one billion kuna, Zagreb Stock Exchange director Zeljko Kardum told reporters on Monday. Shares accounted for 430.8 million kuna (about USD 49.86 million) of the turnover realised until late June, bonds accounted for 210.8 million kuna (USD 24.39 million), whereas entitlements accounted for 3.4 million kuna of the entire turnover (USD 393,518). The number of transactions on the Zagreb Stock Exchange in the first half of this year increased to 13,000 as against 10,000 in the first half of last year. The Crobex index ended this year's first half at 983 points as against last year's 834.7 points. Regular shares of the Zagrebacka Banka accounted for the largest part of the turnover - 176.4 million kuna or 40 percent (USD 20.41 million), followed by the shares of the Podravka food industry which accounted for 64.2 million kuna or 15% (USD 7.43 million) and Pliva pharmaceutical company with 63.8 million kuna or 15 percent (USD 7.38 million) of the entire turnover.
