KOSTUNICA TO DETERMINE PREMIER DESIGNATE NEXT WEEK

BELGRADE, June 29 (Hina) - Yugoslav President Vojislav Kostunica said on Friday that early next week he would start consultations on the country's new premier designate, after Prime Minister Zoran Zizic of Montenegro's Socialist People's Party (SNP) resigned over the extradition of former Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic to the Hague war crimes tribunal. A statement issued by Kostunica's office on Friday evening said the composition of the new government would be entrusted "only to those political subjects which have similar programme objectives and are willing to continue the government's reform orientation." It is also stated that Kostunica and Zizic held a meeting at which Zizic he was resigning because "the agreement between the SNP and Serbia's ruling coalition DOS has been violated" and because the "state is faced with crisis" due to yesterday's decision of the Serbian government to hand Milosevic over.

Analyses about the make-up of the new government and new coalitions are very cautious, however, it is speculated that Montenegro's People's Party could have an important role in "tipping the scales."
