ZAGREB, June 28 (Hina) - During a parliamentary discussion on the
technical revision of the state budget on Thursday afternoon, the
bench of two opposition parties HSP and HKDU, like the strongest
opposition party HDZ, were against the proposed revision of the
budget, while parties which make up the ruling five-party coalition
supported a draft revision.
On behalf of the HSP/HKDU, Tonci Tadic assessed that it was
worrisome that the success of the budget was based on the
privatisation of the Croatian Telekom (HT), and said it was
incomprehensible for the International Monetary Fund (IMF) that
the government was continuing with a dangerous practice of
financing the state with the sale of the state-owned assets.
On behalf of the SDP, Dragica Zgrebec said this was only a technical
budget, and supported it. She said it would be useful to initiate a
discussion on legally-defined social rights and possibilities for
ensuring financial means for their exercise.
The bench of the IDS (Istrian Democratic Assembly) - the party which
has recently left the ruling coalition - supported the revision of
the budget.
On behalf of the HSS (one of ruling parties), Luka Roic, refuted
disastrous predictions about the failure of the state budget.
Roic said one of encouraging indicators was a rise in revenues from
taxes. Good tourist results may improve 'a blood count' of the
budget additionally, Roic envisages.
The bench of another two ruling parties LS/HNS also announced it
would vote for the revision of the budget.
The parliament continued the work with a discussion on a bill of
amendments to a law on the state administration.
