ZAGREB, June 6 (Hina) - How really ready are we to invest efforts in
positive processes and not only in removing the consequences of
war, hatred and destruction is one of the main questions of the
international seminar "Ecology of the Heart - Ecology of the
Nature", said Croatia's First Deputy Prime Minister and head of the
Commission for Relations with Religious Communities, Goran
Granic.
The two-day seminar, which ended at the Serb Orthodox Church in
Zagreb on Tuesday evening, gathered Christian theologians from
Croatia and Germany. Representatives of the Evangelical, Catholic
and Orthodox churches discussed environmental protection and man's
place and role in the process.
The seminar was held on the 30th anniversary of the Theological
South-East Europe seminar in Heidelberg and was hosted by the
Archdiocesan Theological Seminary, the theological faculty
"Matija Vlacic Ilirik" and the Serb Orthodox Church.
Vitomir Belaj, dean of the "Matija Vlacic Ilirik" faculty, said the
seminar tackled two groups of topics - the Gospel in relation to
nature and separate topics dealing in more detail with that
problem.
Environmental protection was discussed on several levels - its
technical implementation, environmental protection as an
anthropological problem and environmental protection in the
context of faith and theology.
Friedrich Heyer, a professor at the Heidelberg Evangelical
Faculty, said the seminar was a small but good beginning in the
resolution of this serious problem.
Attending the seminar were, among else, Zagreb auxiliary bishop
Msgr. Vlado Kosic, Zagreb-Ljubljana and Italy Metropolitan Jovan
Pavlovic, the acting bishop of the Evangelical Church in Croatia,
Andreas Luksa, and the president of the Community of Baptist
Churches in Croatia, Branko Lovrec.
