OSIJEK OSIJEK, June 4 (Hina) - The trial of nine members of Croatian Serb paramilitary units, charged with genocide, started at the Osijek County Court on Monday. The nine men are accused of having participated in the ethnic cleansing
of non-Serbs from Sodolovci, Koprivna, Paulin Dvor and Ernestinovo in the formerly occupied areas of Slavonija and Baranja, thus committing genocide. They are also charged with the registration and imprisonment in 1992 of non-Serb residents of Koprivna and forcing them later to leave the village through mine fields. Only two of the nine accused attended today's hearing and they pleaded not guilty. The other suspects are tried in absentia. The trial resumes tomorrow with witness testimonies.(hina) rml
