This modern floating warehouse consists of four sections for petrol
tankers and two for tank cars, with a capacity of 40,000 cubic
metres. The port has invested 40 million kuna worth (about USD 4.7)
of favourable foreign loans into the project.
The new part of the Ploce port was opened by Croatia's Minister of
Maritime Affairs, Transport and Communications, Alojz Tusek, in
the presence of numerous guests, including foreign partners from
Istra Benz Koper, Mitan Handels AG Zurich, Circle International and
Raiffeisenbank Austria Zagreb.
The terminal for liquids, the only such terminal on the Croatian
coast, will employ some 20 highly qualified experts. The terminal,
which serves for the reloading and storage of oil products and
edible oil, was constructed by three Croatian companies.
The port has already signed a contract on the delivery of some
220,000 tonnes of liquid cargo with Bosnia-Herzegovina. It is
expected that large merchantships, which currently travel via the
Slovene port of Koper, will from now on transport liquid cargo to
Bosnia-Herzegovina via the Ploce port.
