ZAGREB, June 1 (Hina) - The Croatian parliament on Friday unanimously endorsed a bill on subsidised housebuilding which gives citizens a chance to purchase flats at more favourable prices while simultaneously encouraging
housebuilding. The bill aims to make the purchase of flats more affordable to people with average wages, while simultaneously inciting construction. According to the bill, housebuilding would be financed by the state budget, with funds of local self-government units and citizens, and by business banks. Other interested parties, both corporate bodies and individuals, may also participate. About half a billion kuna (approx. $57.5 million) would be ensured this way, providing for the construction of about 1,500 new, 50-square metre flats. This would provide housing for 5,000-7,000 people as well as open about 5,000 new jobs.(hina) ha sb
