ZAGREB, May 18 (Hina) - The currently low level of Croatian-Cuban trade is the result of the fact that both countries place some products on each other's markets via mediators, a Croatian Economy Ministry official said on Friday.
Cuba, for instance, imports Croatian shoes via a Spanish company, while Croatia imports Cuban cigars via Great Britain, which raises the prices of said products considerably, the economy minister's assistant for international relations, Olgica Spevec, said during talks with Cuba's deputy minister for foreign investments and economic cooperation, Rodrigo Malmierco. Malmierco is visiting Croatia accompanied by some 30 Cuban businessmen. Today's talks tackled ways of improving cooperation, including in tourism. Last year Cuba's export to Croatia amounted to a mere $172,000, while Croatian export to Cuba was non-existent.(hina) ha
