SPLIT HARBOUR SPLIT, May 11 (Hina) - Four frigates from the European Marine Forces (EUROMARFOR) sailed into the Split harbour for a four-day visit to the Croatian Navy. The "Reina Sofia", the command ship, is a frigate of the Spanish
royal navy, carrying a crew of 150. The ship is accompanied by France's "Aconit" with 153 sailors, Italy's "Libeccio" with a crew of 200 and Portugal's frigate ""Comandante Sacudara Cabral" carrying 125 crew. Commanding officer, Captain Fernando Gea, said EUROMARFOR was established in 1995 as a temporary force with the task of promoting European security and defence identity. The EUROMARFOR is activated by a decision of the four member-countries and may be used as forces of the West European Union or within NATO, the UN and the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe.
