U.S. AMBASSADOR PAYS VISIT TO SPLIT

SPLIT, May 11 (Hina) - The United States Ambassador to Croatia, Lawrence Rossin, and leaders of the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) in Croatia on Friday visited the southern Adriatic city of Split where they held talks with local businessmen. Rossin said economic growth and employment in Croatia, as in all other developed countries, should be generated by the private sector. AmCham experts extended assistance in the establishment of direct business relations between Croatian and U.S. companies and among companies in Croatia. Speaking about the exchange of commodities between Split-Dalmatia County and the United States, the president of the county chamber of commerce, Jadranka Radovanic, said the county last year imported $6.3 million and exported $5.1 million worth of goods. Export focuses on cement, ferrochrome, olives and olive oil, while import focuses on telephones, dietary products and vitamins. Ambassador Rossin and the AmCham experts also visited the Brodosplit shipyard for talks on possibilities of joint investments in future projects. (hina) ha
