Croatian President Stjepan Mesic said on Tuesday on the occasion of Europe Day and the Day of Victory over Fascism in World War II, which are marked on May 9. "Participation in the anti-fascist struggle enabled Croatia to, as a part of the former Yugoslavia, join the victorious forces of World War II," he said. Mesic also pointed to the significance of the anti-fascist struggle in Croatia and its impact on Croatia's international recognition. On its path to a united Europe, Croatia must establish standards of the democratic world and make steps toward its transformation into "a democratic, law-based and social state," Mesic said in a statement. An indicator of Croatia's true devotion to democratic values is and will be our attitude towards neo-fascism. By corre
